An Act to regulate the employment of contract labour in certain establishments and to provide its abolition in certain circumstances and for matters connected therewith.

Applicability of Contract Labour Act

  • Applies To
  1. Principal employer of establishment where 20 or more labours employed during the preceding 12 months.
  2. Contractor who employs 20 or more workmen on any day of the preceding 12 months.
  • Not Apply If
  1. The work is seasonal or not done for more than 60 days in a year.
  2. The work is seasonal or not done for more than 120 days in a year.

Objectives

Pays the wages as fixed by the government/commissioner of labour. In case of absence of above the act pays fair wages

Provide canteen to labours.

Issues employment card to workmen.

Provide restrooms for the workers

Provide separate urinals for men and women

Provide drinking water, washing area, first aid, etc. for the labours

Maintain the various registers and records, notices, etc.
